‚ÄčConference 2014 > Agenda > Surviving the Triangle - AD FS, Shibboleth, and Azure AD: An Office 365 Case Study at the University of Vermont

Session Location: Union

Session Time: Tuesday October 14th 2:15PM-3:15PM

Session Presenter(s):

Greg Mackinnon - University of Vermont

Abstract:

Implementing federated single-sign on for Office 365 can be challenging in Higher Ed institutions; especially when existing Shibboleth-based authentication services already are in place.  In this session I will walk though the integration of Active Directory Federation Services on Server 2012 R2 with Shibboleth 2.0 at the University of Vermont.  I then will provide an implementation overview of Azure AD Sync (DirSync) with our Office 365 tenant, provisioning of an Office 365 service, and finally demonstrate login to Microsoft Cloud resources using Shibboleth.  I will touch on implementation pain points including:  Load balancing configuration, Matching security and communications protocols between Shibboleth and ADFS, Shibboleth to ADFS claims transformations, DirSync service account permissions and FERPA concerns, Office 365 service provisioning with PowerShell, and "Smart Link" (or short URL) creation for Office 365 services.
